Is it possible to swap the Logic boards from an ide hard drive for a sata hard drive?

I Have two laptop hard drives, they are both samsung, one being an ide and the other sata. I need to know if I can swap the pcb boards on the back so that I can use my ide hard drive in a laptop with a sata socket.

one of the hard drives is 160gb/5400rpm/8m/PATA (IDE)
the other is 160gb/7200rpm/16m (SATA)

I'm not sure you know exactly the process you are asking, but the answer is no. There is no way to convert an IDE drive to a SATA one in your laptop. You will have to transfer the data onto the new SATA drive. To make this easier you can use a program to create a drive image from it, or you can simply copy off all the data using an enclosure.

I would do the following steps:
Install SATA drive in laptop with SATA port (or leave it alone if the drive is already in there).
Install Windows if needed.
Place IDE drive in a 2.5" IDE enclosure and plug into laptop.
Use this as an external drive to copy all the files off of it.
