Can a Port Replicator Power a Laptop via USB port?
OK This may sound like a silly question to some but....I kid you not.... the guy from Dell swears that my laptop can be powered by a port replicator through only my Laptop USB port. I've searched here to find and answer and everyone says it's not possible. The thing is my normal Power Cable Port is damaged and non functional so I have to get a new motherboard because it's built into it. So the Dell dude says they can send me a new MB and I can have it done on my terms, I can send it back to them so they can do it OR (GET THIS) I can get a Targus port replicator that is capable of powering the laptop and recharging the laptop battery through the USB! Uh.....wha? So you tell me.....is this seriously possible or was that guy full of shite?
He aught to know. Try it. If it doesn't work, sue him. j/k. It just depends if the motherboard supports that or not. If it does, great. There's only 5 volt 1 amp available through USB normally. It wouldn't be enough to power your laptop, but it would be enough to charge the battery with the laptop off.
