Can I get my Sony VAIO repaired at any laptop repair store or do I have to get it fixed by Sony?
The fan is making very violent rattling sounds, and when I got it checked at my campus IT service, the technicians there said the fan is probably broken. They don't do hardware repairs so instructed me to call Sony. There are no Sony stores around though, so where can I bring my laptop in for hardware repair? And also, how much would a fan replacement cost?

If your computer is not under warranty then any laptop repair store should be able to help you. If you do have a warranty call up Sony and see how you go about fixing it. I had a problem with a Vaio laptop and they sent someone to my house to fix the problem. They also might give you the option of shipping it to Sony.
