Is giving your SS# to dell for ordering a business laptop safe??? What do they do with it?
I am not really in a business but sorta am on ebay and amazon. I am kinda worried. What will they do with my social security number? The reason i gave it to them was because of a deal I found on a laptop for small business and I guess if I didnt give it to them they would cancel my order.. I have placed a lot of orders with dell before though... Thanks in advance for your help!
Providing your SS# would only be reasonable if you were applying for some type of credit or fianancing.
For example: "The DELL PREFERRED ACCOUNT (DPA) - Offered by CIT Bank to qualified U.S. residents with approved credit."
This would be just like applying for a credit card or loan at a banks, so they have a reason to ask.
Otherwise, I do not see a reason to provide it directly to Dell
