Troubleshooting laptop keyboard repair?
Long story short...
I spilled a coke on my laptop. Paid someone to replace the keyboard. Everything worked for a few months. Then the g and h keys stopped working. It has sat for a few months, and now I am getting around to fixing it.
I figured this was an easy replacement so I popped off the little cover plate, unscrewed the keyboard, and slipped it out. I flipped up the little connection and pulled out the ribbon.
I was going to order a replacement keyboard, (I got the part number off the back). Before I did, I reversed the process and re-attached the keyboard. I fired it up, and now several more keys do not work.
Is the ribbon connection very finicky? Could my keyboard be fine, just have a temper mental ribbon?
A replacement can be had for 25 bucks. Should I just order the already replaced keyboard, and reinstall?
It wouldn't be a driver or some other BS would it? Thanks for any input.
p.s. Its a dell inspiron keyboard part number D587-US
The place here the ribbon plugs into may have coke goo in it. See if you can come up with a mild abrasive that can fit in the slot to clean the contacts. Or better yet take a new tooth brush and some alcohol and clean the slot with it. Then reconnect the keyboard after it drys. Good luck!
