Why wont speakers work on laptop?
Hi, I have just upgraded my laptop external speakers to logitech ls21`s. Iv pluged them into the headphone jack on my acer aspire 2920 laptop running vista but, they dont work, The sound plays through the laptops internal speaker.
My old speakers were also logitech and they work fine. The new speakers have a subwoofer dont know if this makes a difference.
I know that the problem is not with the speakers as I have tried them on my desktop pc with XP and they work on that.
Why wont they work on my laptop?
Please do not say make sure they are pluged into the green headphone jack, because they are!!! I allready know this, and please dont say to make sure they are plugged in, because they are, am not that fick honestly. Like i said before my other logitech speakers just work, and these ones dont.
Any help would be greatly apreciated as i have just bought an mp3 controller and can only use it on my laptop so really need to get these speakers working.

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio tab; Look at the Sound Playback device and notice it's name.
Go back to Control Panel and double-click the icon with the name you just noted (Realtek), thus opening it's settings window.
Now you'll have to look for the correct thing, but your best shot is to go to the Audio I/O tab where there should be a grid with the corresponding-colour connectors for your audio; Look closely, and you'll notice a small white spanner: click there to enter it's settings, and make sure the "Enable auto popup dialog when device has been plugged in" is marked.
This will ask you what's been plugged in when you next do just that, and will set itself accordingly.
