Battery Plugged in but not charging + problem with time/date settings, Asus laptop?
I recently managed to spill some water into the keyboard of my new Asus X53 laptop. Miraculously, turning it upside down and taking out the battery etc. restored it, and it is up and working again.
However, the battery icon now displays with 'plugged in but not charging', and the laptop has to run off mains electricity- it is completely dead and won't boot up without being plugged in.
Also, on rebooting the laptop I'm directed to the IBOS set up screen and asked to enter the date/time. I can only enter the first digit of the time before the screen freezes and I have to press 'Esc' to continue set up. After this, I can change the date/time on my tool bar, but as soon as the laptop is switched off, it goes back to the same set up screen and refuses to allow me to enter the time again.
The laptop is only a month old, is this fixable or am I best investing in a new battery? Is the time/date problem related to the battery?

The first thing I would try is pulling out the CMOS battery. This requires opening the laptop and finding the wafer-like battery. Leave it out for about 15 seconds and replace it. Once you have done that, turn on your computer and enter BIOS again and see if it still freezes on you.
