What Laptop Upgrades Can I Make?
My uncle gave me his old Dell Latitude D600 and it's pretty slow. The internet, and videos especially. Videos barely run, and the internet feels like dial up even though it's connected through Road Runner a high speed LAN internet. Here is some information about my laptop. I need to know what upgrades I can make for the parts I'm showing.

The CPU is not horrible
Your video is not very good but you are stuck with it
The best you can do is get two 2 gig RAM modules and stuff them in.
Then save your data and get a 7200 rpm hard drive - since your old laptop is probably not SATA, your best bet will be a Hitachi 7200 rpm
The 7200 will make a HUGE difference to the overall feel
That is probably going to address the slow feeling on the internet
But that video problem is a bit perplexing since it depends only on the CPU and the video chip.
Two things to try there:
1) Try some different video codecs - some are coded more efficiently than others. Start with the latest klite codec pack and then experiment with others if no improvement...
2) Your CPU might be overheating due to accumulation of dust in the heatsink. If that is happening the laptop will automatically slow down the laptop to keep the temperature safe. You can look for temperature monitoring software or just open up the case and start cleaning out dust bunnies - It's a necessary procedure anyways for everyone to do every 3 to 6 months but of course nobody including you uncle ever does it since the laptop manufacturers don't make it easy to do...
