How easy is it to make a laptop wireless?
I am looking to buy a laptop and have a wireless router at home, how easy is it to make the laptop wireless? Thanks in advance.
Sorry, should have said the laptop I'm looking to buy is a bit older so isn't wireless. Is it easy to install a card?
If you buy a laptop, it will most likely have the wireless card already installed. In that case, since you already have a wireless network set up, getting the laptop connected should be nearly as easy as falling out of bed...
When you turn the laptop on, it should auto-detect wireless networks and give a bubble pop-up saying that it found networks. Click the bubble, choose your network, and you should be able to get connected just fine.
Note: Home wireless networks should be secured to prevent undesired visitors. Not only will other people using your network slow it down for you, it could also become a legal issue if they are doing anything illegal, because it will trace back to you. Make sure you encrypt the network. The manual or documentation for your wireless router should tell how to do this, if you have not done it already.
