How do i get internet with my dell latitude cpx that has windows 2000?
I recently garbage picked an old laptop(it works fine everything is clean off of it) and im wondering how to get internet on it. It is a Dell Latitude CPx with Windows 2000. It has no ethernet cable spots or anything, or at least i dont think it does. how can i get internet on this?
Three interfaces are used to get internet:
Phone Jack: This requires a subscription to a data phone line. You have to call somebody like NetZero to get a username and password to access this kind of internet. Speeds are limited to 56KBps.
Ethernet Jack: Requires a DHCP or some other IP Addressing scheme. If you have cable/DSL already then you will have to connect it to your existing network via a hub, router, switch etc. to obtain an IP Address. You can get a PCMCIA adapter to get an ethernet port. Speed are limited to 1GBps.
WiFi: If you have built in wifi (which you probably dont) you can get a USB adapter or PCMCIA adapter to obtain an IP in the same way you would for ethernet. Speeds are limited to 54MBps.
