Why do LCD TVs have a bezel?
Even the newest LED backlit TVs which are super slim seem to have a front bezel which is about 4-6mm from the screen surface. Why is this? Why can't they be totally flat?
OK, so it's to stop the panel falling out, but why so fat? I looked at a bunch today, and they're nearly all the same. I expect these have a metal shield inside like computer monitors, so why all the material?
Something needs to hold the panel in place and cover/protect the sides of the panel. That's what the bezel is for.
