What laptop computer would you recommend a student given the following criteria?
1.Microsoft PC
2.Will be used for typing, internet, university stuff. Very basic, I won’t be using the computer for anything superfluous; I don’t play computer games, or use movie/music editing software, etc.
3.Fairly inexpensive (low to medium price range).
4.Needs to be compact and LIGHTWEIGHT!!
5.Reasonable screen size (no netbooks).
6.Basically, I need a laptop which is portable, one which will not break my back or give me a hunch carrying around university. But also, because it will supply all my computer needs, it needs to be practical, fast, durable, good battery life, and easy to use.
What specifications (e.g. RAM, memory, others?) should I look out for? I don’t know much about computers and what brands are good or bad. In the past I’ve mainly just owned Dell and Acer computers, which have served me adequately and have never given me any reasons for complaint.
My specs are basically just like yours and I am no expert on any of it either. I got a used Dell Inspiron less than a year ago that has been giving me hell for the most part and I am on the verge of destroying the infernal machine. Really the few PCs I have owned have all been Dells that all have issues. Not playing games or anything, you will want to find one w/ at minimum 1 GB of RAM and wi/fi capable. Hard drive size depends on how much you will actually store on it. Mine is like a 120 GB which is more than ample. I spent $100-200 US but $300-400 would have gotten a better one. I would not personally spend more than that, and I am fine with XP, don't need Windows7. Good luck..

US $50.00
