When to upgrade from my 2.4GHZ Macbook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo?
Just wondering when would be the right time. When is the big technological jaunt into the future going to come upon us? I'm ready for that 5.0GhZ Quad Core Macbook Pro. When's it coming? And the Solid State hard drives at the same price we're paying now? Apple 4-EVA!
The intel site is showing the Quad mobile CPUs available. Fingers crossed that will be the chip in the new 17 inch model in January. But it won't be 5Ghz... more like 2.26Ghz with a 12meg cache.
Apple tries to be hush hush on what is coming out soon but you can check out MacRumors to keep ahead as they look at who is supplying Apple to find out what will be in the future models.
They won't make a big jump for a while. My guess your 2.4 is good for another 2 years. If you are doing HD video editing you might benefit from the quad if it comes out. Future workstation Quads, 6 and 8 core models have a much faster memory buss with the memory controller onboard and were due this year to early next. Current buss is a bottleneck across all the quad and dual quad range but the future is looking up.
