Laptop problem?
hello, i have this laptop but it has a problem, the screen is separated from the base, only attached by the cable, the hinges are fine, what apparently broke off was the hinge cover, i called a tech and he told me i'd have to replace the cover of the whole base, a $100 plus investment, i dont know if you understand exactly what im saying but is there any way i can mickey mouse that, i have already thought of gluing them both together but i wont be able to open it or close it, any help?
im sorry for not specifying my brand, its a gateway m405, and yes i have the 2 screws that were mentioned in the first answer but if i screw them both then the hinges wont be able to rotate thus making it impossible to open it or close it.
Bobby D: I had a Dell and replaced my hinge and hinge covers on both sided for about $35.00. Dell has free technical support for the life of your computer. Directions in how to perform the operation is on their website. You did not mention your brand, but my guess it, you either broke more than a hinge cover or the the is claiming the base cover it part of a kit that comes with the hinges-That is very unusual. One of the strengths of Dell is the way they put the computers together. A lot of effort goes into putting in parts in a way that makes is easy to repair and resolve. It may take some time because the tightness of the area to work, but most companies have tried to copy them. You may have gone to a bad tech. Try calling the manufacturer or ting it to another tech and getting another estimate. I agree the price quoted seems off the charts and unreasonable it your problem is only hinge covers (they come in pairs). If the base us cracked-that I can understand, but the base should not be that much either.
