is it possible to reattatch the thin cord connects the power chip to the mother board in a ps2?
i was fixing my friend's ps2(fat version) and opened up the top part of it.....i left everything unscrewed together and tested it and it worked again,but when i was screwing back on when the top part(with the pwer button chip) fell and ripped out the cord from the mother board......me and my dad are working on it and we got it to light up for a couple seconds,but tht's it....any non-retarted tips will help.
This happens to just about everybody... don't panic.
if you have a good long pair of tweezers you may be able to get the ribbon back in. That's assuming you know where it goes, right? It sounds like it if you almost got it working again. Under the disc drive, but way in there so it's real hard to get the ribbon in there securely.
There are two things you can do. If you've got a good long pair of tweezers you can try holding the ribbon near the end with them, and seeing if you can push it in far enough that it will stay. That's the quick and less reliable method.
The slow more reliable method is to take the disc drive off completely. I don't remember the last time I did this so maybe check an online guide, or post more details and I'll take a minute and open my ps2. What I can't remember is whether the mounting screws are on the top or bottom of the pcb. If they're on the bottom, you may have to take the whole board out of the bottom case half. Don't freak about having to take the ps2 apart even more... just be careful. If you have to take the board out completely, you'll need to unscrew the memory card and controller ports too. Then it should lift out easily, as long as there's no hard drive or network adapter in the way.
Once you've found the mounting screws, just remove the disc drive temporarily, and put the ribbon. Make sure it's not upside down! It should run from under the drive, then flip over in a 180 and run to the front panel, without any twists. If there's a twist it's upside down.
Once it's all in there securely, put it all back together.
