Notebook Screen Turns White, the notebook works with external monitor?
It started with horizontal lines appearing on my screen (3 year old HP 6000 series) and than it started to wash out slowly and the screen turn white. I could bring the image back by jingling the screen, but not anymore. The notebooks works fine with external monitor through the docking station. I ordered replacement screen from HP and swapped it, but it did not change anything. The tech says it is probably board, which I doubt. If anyone knows what it might be, please advise. Thanks!
Did you just change the screen, and reuse the hardware from the old screen (cables, screws, etc.) ? If you did, then it may be the connecting cable between the board and the screen. This sounds like a degenerative problem (slowly get worse), and it may not have been the screen in the first place. Did a technician do the work? If one did contact him/her and ask what parts they bought and what parts they reused. Your description of "jingling the screen" to bring back the image leeds me to believe that this was related to the connections not the screen. I have a DV (9005us), and have taken it apart on more than one occasion. I've learned the hard way to be very gentle with internal connections. If it were a board issue then I don't think an external monitor would work. Also DV 6000 and DV 9000 series computers are notorious for motherboard failure, and HP issued an extended warranty because of this on some computers, If you have the original motherboard after 3 years, then I doubt your in that class, but 2.5 to 3 years is about the age limit on motherboards in HP DV 6000-9000 series computers
