HARD DISK INFO NEEDED?
hey all the techies out there help me out with this one. we all know that internal hdd are cheaper than external so why not make an external hdd out of internal hdd???
AS WE KNOW
external desktop(3.5inch) drives need power. notebook(2.5inch) external drives dont need external power supply, power from usb is enough.
)
so if we use a interenal 500 gb 2.5" with a casing won't it make a cheaper external hdd???
the only question that arises is that "DO INEED TO PROVIDE EXTERNAL POWER TO IT OR WILL IT RUN THROUGH USB ONLY AS ITS 2.5" HDD"
PLUS PLEASE TELL ME ARE THERE ANY PROBLEMS RELATED WITH SUCH DRIVES
BUT I HAVE TO USE IT ON MY LAPTOP HPDV6137TX
WILL IT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE 5 VOLTS THAT HDD NEEDS
I HAVE HEARD THAT EXTERNAL CASE OH HDD FAIL IN 3 MONTHS IS IT SO????
OR ARE THERE GOOD ONES WITH LONG LIFE
PLUS WHY IS THERE SO MUCH DIFFERENCE IN PRICES OF EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL HDD
Ok, right now, unless you already have a drive laying around, there is not a lot much difference of getting a new internal hdd and a casing and putting it together yourself than buying it already as an external drive.
Most of the newer high capacity/high speed external drives have actually 2 usb connections, one for data/power and the other one exclusively for power.
I would suggest you really do a comparison between getting the hdd and the casing separate and getting an external drive already in casing, might save you some trouble, plus the warranty is on the whole thing, if you build it and something fails you have to make sure if its the casing or the hdd and then return whatever is failing. A lot more hassle for a few bucks. That's my opinion.
