Which of these two notebook processors is faster for SIMPLE TASKS?
Is the i7-720QM SUBSTANTIALLY better than the i5-430M for COMPLEX TASKS?
i5-430M Dual Core Processor 2.26GHz (2.53GHz Turbo Mode, 3MB cache)
i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
If the i7-720QM OUTPERFORMS i5-430M for SIMPLE TASKS, does another version of the "i5" perform EQUALLY to the i7-720QM for SIMPLE TASKS ?
It's not the task complexity.
The i7-720 is faster, in raw speed, than the i5-430. If the program wasn't written to run on Itanium (and few, if any, have been), the difference between i5 and i7 is non-existent. Once people start compiling for Itanium, there will be a difference just due to i5/i7. But not due to the complexity of the task, due to the way the program compiles.
