Do lots of people experience reliability problems with notebook computers?
I have purchased at least a dozen notebook computers in the last 2-3 years ... none has lasted longer than 3 months. Just about every single one has had issues with the keyboards. Keys ceasing to work, caps falling completely off, etc.
It doesn't seem to matter whether I spend "only" $700 or twice that. These are name brand notebooks too (HP, Dell, Toshiba, Sony).
In the first 2 months I had the Sony (before returning it) Sony authorized techs came to my house and replaced the keyboard 3 times.
Fortunately, I purchase them from a store with a 90 day return policy (as none has lasted that long).
Is this experience pretty common? To be fair, I am on mine 8-12 hours a day, but still.
Latest one (a Toshiba) had keyboard issues straight out of the box (as well as problems with the touchpad).
I did have that with one HP laptop but they replaced the keybaord free of cost including the shipping charges for the repair.
