Large speaker system hum?
I am helping a guy set up a bar. He has a large PA system on the stage. There are input ran to the otherside of the room to plug in the TV, DVD Player and Ipod. The sound is great if I just plug in the Ipod. If I plug in the DVD or Dish network system I get a very loud humm. I tested a bit and unplugged the power to all the Dish network, TV's, DVD Player and I still get a humm even if there is not power to these devices. If I plug my notebook into the system no humm. any suggestions on what to do or buy.

I've been through this a million times. It is indeed a ground loop. You can drop the ground on one of part of the system but that is highly inadvisable as there is electrocution hazard. Filters sometime improve things but they don't get rid of all the hum. The only real way to get rid of it completely is to have all the components on the same circuit and make sure to test the outlets for faults. You can get a simple tester with a series of three lights for less than ten bucks. I think Partsexpress.com sells them. Radioshack may too. Better yet, have an electrician come in and check things. He may find improper wiring. You'd be surprised (well maybe not) how many bars have improper wiring. Once you get everything on the same circuit (better yet the same outlet) you will be amazed at how the hum simply disappears.
