Can a Hard Disk Drive be replace with a Solid State Drive?
I'm going to buy a ThinkPad and I can't make up my mind as to whether to buy it with a Hard Disk Drive or a Solid State Drive. The Solid State Drive is much more convenient but much more expensive and newer, more advanced Solid State Drives are very likely to appear in the near future with much greater capacity. Can I buy the notebook with a Hard Disk Drive and replace it with an SSD as soon as one with higher capacity appears on the market?
Personally I would buy the HDD and keep it. Solid-State drives are newer on the market, and I would wait for a year or two for them to weed out any potential problems.
Currently, HDD drives are ubiquitous. They read and write faster, and are generally the best current choice.
Solid-state drives, are, as you said, more expensive. However, they don't have any moving pieces so they don't break. However, they cost more per gigabyte. So if I were you, I would stick to HDD. However, if you really wanted a solid-state drive, I would just buy the HDD now.
If a newer solid state drive comes out, chances are it will fit into the slot your HDD once did, so you can just buy that and swap it out.
