Can I use an SATA external HD enclosure for an ATA HD?
I have this laptop hard drive i want to get an external HD enclosure for.....

by looking at the specs it says its 2.8" wide and ATA interface. I can only find 2.5" and 3.5" and I can find ones to support SATA or SATA/IDE but none that support ATA. I thought the connector was different between SATA and ATA but maybe im thinking PATA. Regardless, I'm just looking for an enclosure for the above hard drive and was wondering if the SATA was backwards compatible for ATA drives. Unless of course someone has a suggestion for that hard drive. Just need it so i can recover data off it.
ATA is the same thing as an IDE. From my understanding you cannot use SATA enclosure for an ATA. You will need a cable to do this:

But I am not sure if they will work with external enclosures for sure.
