Is it possible to connect a PC hard drive to a laptop computer?
My friend's PC was fried in a storm and I am wondering if there is any way to get the data off the hard drive and write it to a CD. His computer is completely fried and won't even turn on at all, so there is no guarantee that the hard drive wasn't fried as well.
He will be getting a new computer, would it be easier to connect the hard drive to the new computer to transfer files? If so, how do I do it?
How do I connect the hard drive as a slave drive?
if you buy an external USB hard drive case you'll can connect it to any computer!
to connect an usual hard drive to a laptop (besides the above solution) there are also adapters which can do just this. look up for "laptop IDE adapter".
to connect a HD as slave, you just have to move a "jumper" from one position to another (usually). there is a drawing on the back of the drive (almost always!) better connect it as secondary, as well (on a separate cable).
