i install 5GB of ram to my pc (win XP) but the properties still 2.99GB of ram. (i also install the new bios). do my pc still running a 2.99GB ram or 5GB ram???
Unfortunately there are two types of Windows XP, 32bit and 62 bit. The main difference is that with 32 bit you can only support up to 4gb of RAM. And for the dissapearing gigabyte? Some of the other devices in your computer also need to use up a small amount of the RAM (like the graphics card and the ROM BIOS).
If you want it to detect more than 4gb, you will need to upgrade to 64-bit Operating System which can support a staggering 2 exabytes (giga, tera, peta then exa). You find help on doing that here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/32-bit-and-64-bit-windows-frequently-asked-questions
