Is wearing a tie too formal for an interview at a university?
I have an interview tomorrow at my university. I'm thinking of wearing a red long-sleeve shirt (that's the only one available), a slacks, a pair of black business shoes, and a necktie that goes with the shirt. Additional to that, I will also be carrying a (laptop) bag, since I'm a college student. I want to know if it's too formal for the interview. Should I dress like that or just plain like a college student?

BTW I cannot cut the bag, since I don't have a car.
You always want to look your best when interviewing. You definitely want to wear a tie, and on top of that, I would recommend having a clean hair cut, a good shine on your shoes, and talk with confidence. You always want to sell yourself for the position or program that you are applying for. I was told when I attended a seminar on interviewing that "the one who has the lease amount of negatives gets the job."
