i only charged my new laptop lenovo t410 for 8 hours what happens now?

I have just purchased a new laptop lenovo t410NTEW after the purchase i pulled in the charger and decide to charge my laptop for like 8 hours. After that i unplugged and start using it ...it showed me like 4 hrs of battery time left then it quick skipped to 2 hours in like 30 minutes time...and at end depleted itself in like 1 hrs less than the expected time limit of 4 hours?
Did it happen because i initially charged the battery for less hours(8 hr) there are few post on internet which say recommended time to be of 12 like this one over here

If you run it on just the battery, with settings (brightness, power saver, etc) to the highest, then you will lose more power than if it wasn't. To maintain battery life, lower the brightness and decrease the amount of programs it runs. Also, if you aren't moving from place to place, remove the battery and just run off the charger. If you don't, it can shorten your battery life.
