Are Tablet PC laptop/notbooks any good??
What brand is best? What are the advantages and disadvantages of a tablet pc? Is it worth the money? Also dose it work like a regular laptop?
Within this question is really two points. The first is about tablet pc's and the second is are laptops any good...
A laptop is good only if you are abolutely sure you need to be mobile with your computer. The difference between a laptop and desktop make the arguement for a desktop very strong - they are more rugged, capable of more power, and easier to find parts if something breaks. Most laptops require only parts from that specific model. A Dell D600 and D610 are completely different, not to mention a D400, 410, 420, 620, etc...
I tend to say if you're a student and NEED mobility, then get a laptop. If you work somewhere and the boss thinks you should have one, get a laptop. But - all laptops break and a 3 yr warranty is really a necessity.
Now onto tablets. If you're a student or secretary (meaning you take notes in meetings), the tablet will change everything about what you do. With the stylus, notes become eletronic with a button. Many models have monitors which look like regular laptops but swing open and flip down to become tablets. Get ones with full keyboards, you'll thank me later. They also have a cool tool which allows you to network with other tablets in the area without much effort. Teachers are sure to hate them quickly.
The "who to buy from" comes down to cost and warranty. Find out if your employer or school gets any sort of discount in ordering from a vendor that you can use, and do that. HP, Dell, and Fujitsu are pretty good brands overall. Don't worry about someone's opinion about the type of device, just think about the things you want to do with your PC and who will give you the best price with the longest warranty, and go there.
