Dell power adaper problem?
My Dell Inspiron 8500 power adapter doesn't work and a beeping noise comes from the black adapter box when it's plugged in. I realize I probably need a new adapter, but are there any quick fixes I can use to get t going for a little while? I'm of the "if it's already dead can't kill it" camp and am not afrad to try rewiring it, but I don't know what I'm doing! As long as my computer doesn't get fried...I just want a couple of days use on my computer while I wat for a replacement to arrve.
Also, what results have you guys had with buying universal notebook power adapters? Would Radio Shack or Office Depot carry these (in the store...so I can get one tomorrow)?

I have the same problem you have. I got an old inspirion 5100 and it kept whistling when the adapter was plugged in, next thing you know my monitor doesnt work anymore. It comes on for like 30 seconds and goes black. Anyway im getting a new notebook because this was the last straw for me. I dont know about you but my Dell has been giving me trouble since i got it. I would probably say get a dell adapter from their website.
