Inspiron 1525 LCD screen replacement options?
My Dell inspiron 1525 laptop lcd screen is cracked and needs replacement. The original screen is a WXGA with 1280x800 resolution. I've found screens online for the same model but with higher resolutions (WXGA+). Will the higher resolution screens work with my laptop?
The reason I'm asking is because I get conflicting information from different sources - some say I can, some say I can't, some say maybe. Even Dell techincal support gave me differing answers. The company that sells the LCDs says a higher resolution screen might work, but won't confirm it will.
Do I just have to make sure the display is the correct size, the onboard video card can handle the resolution, and that the connectors between the video card and the screen are of the same type? What do I have to watch out for?
yes, of course. resolution doesn't matter, what's more important is the size of the replacement screen.
added:
precisely, you named it. these are the 3 points you have to pay attention to.
the reason why i'm pretty sure the resolution doesn't matter is because if you configure the laptop yourself, you can chose between screens of different resolutions.
1. the screen size is fix
2. the graphics card/chip has no influence on the resolution (it's the same for all resolutions WXGA, WXGA+, WSXGA+, WUXGA)
3. the ribbon cable from the mainboard to the screen could differ (number of pins in the plug), but i don't believe it because this would mean Dell must have different mainboards for different screen resolutions and this would be simply too expensive (i mean those few screens sold with higher resolution aren't worth that effort).

GREAT!! this show one time more how desolate the Dell support is.
