How Should I upgrade my Dell XPS Gen 4 Desktop?
I'm looking to upgrade my Dell XPS Gen 4 but need help deciding and figuring out what will work. I want to upgrade the graphics card, power supply, fans, heatsink...etc. What do you suggest I should get to make this desktop a serious gaming rig. I want high-end top of the line components. I'm mostly concerned about compatibility issues so if you are well experienced in that area it will also help a lot.

If your serious about upgrading the Dell then start with a new motherboard. The Dell mobo don't cut it for serious gaming. Then build on the new mobo get the 8800GT or GTS and a good 600-700 watt power supply. If your using your same processor you could get an aftermarket cooler but I have found that if the stock cooler is installed correctly with a good heatsinc compound (Artic Silver) then they work just fine.
That is if you don't overclock your processor more than 20%. If you plan on doing serious oclocking then get a new cooler. If your running XP then get 2 gig's of good low latency RAM.
If you can add a fan in the front of the case then do it if you can put two 80mm fans in the lower front then do that (blowing in). Then put the largest fan that will fit in the rear of the case (blowing out). (The new power supply should have two good fans on it).
When putting this new rig together think future proofing as much as possible, like an SLI or Crossfire mobo and the 700watt power supply.
Just have fun doing the upgrade.
