Although time consuming the best thing to do is to back up your data on another drive, format windows and re-install. To speed up you system you can manually uninstall go through the software installed on your computer by going to add/remove programs under the control panel. You can also disable services on your computer "normally" under the control panel/admin tools. Another thing you can do is run defrag under accessories->system tools. Depending on your OS you may also be able to run the command msconfig from the command prompt. msconfig will allow you to turn off start up services. Keep in mind if you remove applications or disable services that are required for your system you can damage windows which may force you in to having to re-install everything. Also even if you turn off all of the services that are not needed, your system will still most likely not run as fast as a fresh install. Over time windows registry is added to and there is no way to easily clean it all up even using the best registry software.
